Tsunami observed in Japan

Japan's Meteorological Agency says tsunami triggered by Wednesday's earthquake off Chile have reached Japan.

The agency says a tsunami of 30 centimeters was observed at Kuji Port in Iwate Prefecture in northeastern Japan at 7:13 AM Japan time on Friday. The height of tsunami is increasing.

Tsunami of 10 centimeters were also observed in Hamanaka City at 6:33 AM, and Erimo City at 7:05 AM. Both cities are in Hokkaido, northern Japan.

10-centimeter tsunami also reached both Kamaishi Port and Miyako Port in Iwate Prefecture.

A small tsunami was observed on Chichijima in the Ogasawara Islands at 6:11 AM.
The agency is urging people to avoid coastlines and estuaries until it lifts the tsunami advisory.
