Tokyo Motor Show opens to media

The Tokyo Motor Show, featuring state-of-the-art fuel-cell cars as well as driverless vehicles, opened for a media preview on Wednesday.

A total of 160 automakers and parts manufacturers from Japan and abroad are taking part in the biennial event this year.

Some carmakers are introducing eco-friendly cars running on electricity generated by hydrogen and oxygen.

Honda is exhibiting its latest car model, which can run for 700 kilometers on a single charge of hydrogen. The firm plans to start selling the car next year.

Toyota is showcasing a vehicle whose batteries can be used as a power supply outlet when it is parked.

Automakers are also showing their devotion to developing self-driving vehicles.

Nissan unveiled one with artificial intelligence that records and automatically reproduces the way people drive.
