Intl. science and technology forum opens in Kyoto

Renowned scientists and government officials from around the world have gathered in Kyoto, western Japan, to discuss technological progress and the challenges they are facing.

An annual international conference on Science and Technology began on Sunday with the participation of 1,000 people from around 100 countries and territories.
At the opening ceremony, Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe made a speech.

Abe said he wants Japan to become a country where numerous technological innovations can take place, such as self-driving cars now being developed by Japanese auto makers.
