People run up and down 785 steps of Konpira Shrine

posted on October 5, 2015

A unique running event was held on Sunday at Kagawa Prefecture's famous 785 steps of Konpira Shrine.

About 500 people between the age of 3 and 80 took part in the annual event. It's designed to give participants a chance to pray for their health.

The participants started running in waves depending on their age and gender, and went up and down the long stair case.

Wearing the same style of shirts, the competitors tried hard to push forward, as cheers broke out from the streets. But, some of them walked or stopped to catch their breath midway. In front of the shrine, they prayed for good health.
