Mark Hammett linked to coaching role with Japan Super Rugby team the Sunwolves

posted on December 14, 2015

Mark Hammett is being linked to a return to Super Rugby with Japan's new franchise. The Sunwolves are set to join an expanded 18-team competition next year along with the Kings from South Africa and Argentina's first franchise.

The Sunwolves haven't named their coach with their process handicapped by the unexpected departure of Japanese national coach Eddie Jones.

But Japanese media are linking former All Blacks hooker Hammett to the position.

Hammett has vast experience, having been a Crusaders assistant and then Hurricanes head coach from 2011-14.

Hammett vacated his position in charge of Welsh club Cardiff this year to return home for personal reasons.

He had recently been named assistant coach to Leon MacDonald at the Tasman Makos for next year's national provincial championship.
