A bamboo grove's shimmering beauty is highlighted in all its glory as Kyoto's Arashiyama district prepared for a special season of illuminated evening openings of its famed attractions.

Attractions including the bamboo forest and the tourist-magnet Togetsukyo bridge were lit up on the night of Dec. 9 in preparation for the "Kyoto Arashiyama Hanatoro" event between Dec. 11 and Dec. 20.

The hordes of visitors expected in the area will be treated to a dazzling display of 2,500 lamps lighting up the landmarks from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
