Tokyo police open investigation center at Haneda

Tokyo police have opened an investigation center at Haneda airport to apprehend criminal suspects attempting to flee Japan.

At the opening ceremony on Tuesday, the head of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department's organized crime division, Hirofumi Naito, said the number of people using Haneda airport is increasing with the approach of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics. He said it is important to be vigilant at airports, as crime is becoming increasingly globalized.

The police say the personnel stationed at the center will be good at foreign languages, including English and Chinese.

They are on the lookout for suspects on wanted lists trying to leave or re-enter Japan.
