An Australian Super Rugby club says Japanese star Ayumu Goromaru will join the team for the 2016 season starting in February.

Executive General Manager Daniel Herbert of the Brisbane-based St. George Queensland Reds said on Wednesday that Goromaru is seen by many as a standout fullback of the Rugby World Cup. Herbert said the player has also been performing at a consistently high level in the Japanese league for years.

Herbert added that Goromaru's goal-kicking will help in an area where the Reds are looking to improve, and that he will add depth to the team's outside backs.

Goromaru said in a statement that he will test himself in Super Rugby. He added that he has followed the Reds for years and looks forward to joining the squad and meeting new teammates.
