More and more foreigners are coming to Japan to enjoy skiing and snowboarding.

The Japan National Tourism Organization says the number of foreign tourists topped 10 million for the first time in 2013 and increased to more than 13 million the following year. Last year, the figure exceeded an estimated 19 million.

2.9 percent of foreign visitors surveyed by the Tourism Agency said they came to Japan in 2013 to ski or snowboard. The figure increased to 3.8 percent in2014. The agency estimates that about 500,000 people came to Japan to enjoy winter sports that year.
