Early risers treated to 'Diamond Fuji' spectacle

Early risers gathered on Sunday in Yamanashi Prefecture to see the sun appear from behind Mount Fuji.

The "Diamond Fuji" phenomenon occurs when the sun rises or sets behind Japan's highest peak and shines like a diamond. It can be seen from the Yamanashi side of the mountain in the late autumn and winter.
