Cleanup on Mount Fuji

posted on October 25, 2015

About 1,000 people gathered at the foot of Mount Fuji on Saturday to pick up garbage.

The participants included residents from Yamanashi and Shizuoka Prefectures. They collected trash at 12 locations including grassy fields and woods.

After only about 90 minutes of cleaning areas around Kawaguchi Lake and along a major highway in Fujinomiya City, the team had picked up about 700 kilograms of garbage. The litter included empty cans, plastic bottles and even a TV set and old tires.

A nonprofit organization that organized the activity says illegal dumping of garbage is common in the woods around Mount Fuji.
