Chinese holiday-week tourists shop in Akihabara

Chinese tourists are flocking to Akihabara in Tokyo, a renowned electronic district, as China starts its week-long holidays marking National Day on Thursday.

Staff at an electric appliance store have set up a corner to assist Chinese visitors.

Rice cookers priced at more than 800 dollars as well as insulated water bottles are hot-selling items. Cosmetics and daily commodities are also popular. Staff have increased stock of these items by 50 percent more than usual.

A man from Shanghai said he values Japanese electric products highly and that he bought some for his friends back in China as well.

The shopper also said the number of Chinese visiting Japan looks to increase due to the continued weakness of the Japanese currency. He added that China's slowing economy is not affecting their travel fever.
