ATMs in Japan will be easier for foreigners to use

posted on December 1, 2015

Japanese banks are trying to improve services to accommodate a growing number of foreign visitors, after many have pointed out inconveniences.

Seven Bank is set to increase the number of languages available at its ATMs by mid-December. The bank operates over 20,000 cash dispensers nationwide, mostly at 7-Eleven stores.

Currently users can choose to conduct their transactions in English, Chinese, Korean or Portuguese, in addition to Japanese. 7 more languages will be introduced, including Thai and Indonesian.

Local banks, such as Yokohama Bank and Kyoto Bank, are following moves by the major banks to increase the number of ATMs that accept foreign cash and credit cards.
