Plum trees at Osaka shrine blossoming early

posted on February 13, 2016

Plum trees are reaching full bloom one month earlier than usual at a renowned garden in Osaka.

The garden, in the compound of Domyoji-tenmangu shrine in Fujii-dera city, boasts 800 plum trees of about 80 varieties.

This season, the trees began to blossom in mid-December.

The Kagoshima-kobai variety, known to flower early, is now in full bloom. Its double, dark pink blossoms are giving off a fresh and rich fragrance.

Another variety called Chasei-bai, which features round, greenish-yellow petals is also at its peak.
