Kabukiza theater to increase days with 3 shows

posted on April 5, 2016

The famous Kabukiza theater in Tokyo will offer more dates with 3 shortened kabuki performances a day. It's an effort to attract foreign visitors.

Officials with kabuki company Shochiku say the change will be for shows in June and possibly for other periods. Each performance will last about 3 hours. The price of tickets will be about 10 to 25 dollars cheaper.

Officials say the theater now basically has 2 shows a day, with each one lasting 4 to 5 hours. They say some have said this was too long for people not familiar with kabuki.

The company says it's making the move to attract foreign tourists as more visit with the upcoming 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics.
