First cherry blossoms in Fukuoka, Nagoya

Residents of Fukuoka city in western Japan and Nagoya in the center of the country are welcoming the arrival of the first cherry blossoms in the country.

The Meteorological Agency on Saturday announced the flowers have started blooming in both cities.

Officials at the Fukuoka District Meteorological Observatory said 10 blossoms were out on a somei-yoshino cherry tree on the observatory grounds.

The flowers have appeared in Fukuoka 4 days earlier than usual and 3 days earlier than last year. In Nagoya they've come a week earlier than usual and 2 days earlier than last year.
