The Japan Tourism Agency on Tuesday appointed contestants from 72 countries and regions for this year's Miss International Beauty Pageant slated for Nov. 5 in Tokyo as special ambassadors for tourism in Japan.

The agency hopes that the contestants will disseminate information about Japan's attractiveness through social networking services and other media, officials said.

Representatives in colorful dresses showed up at appointment ceremony held at a Tokyo hotel Tuesday.

After receiving an appointment letter from Tourism Agency Commissioner Akihiko Tamura, Helena Zuiani of Argentina told reporters that she has been impressed by Mount Fuji.
